Great race today at Woodchester. All credit to the handicappers who managed to get all riders within about 500m of each other at the finish of the 70km race. There was only one exception to this. Graham Phillips rode 1.5km/hour faster than expected and was uncatchable. Great effort and a well-deserved victory. Don Clifton led the Ladies into the minor placings. Both Suzie Gray and Sarah Rawlinson set aside their feminist tendencies and allowed the superior male, (ie Don) to do all the work on lap two. Craig Beddome edged out Matt Hawthorn on the line with the rest of “scratch” not far behind.

So if you weren’t there you missed the fun. Yes, there was a chill in the air, a few puddles and an occasional spot of rain but that just added to the shared challenge of the race. And Amanda Dingley brought homemade brownies to the event so you missed them too!

Today we had two Referees and five other non-riding volunteers for 23 starters. Clearly it’s a big ask for these people to turn out in the winter months when race fields are small.

Remember we don’t just run the Tour of Goolwa, we’re out there working all year for the club.

We’d love to see some more of you riders at our next event on July 1st. It’s the popular Paris Creek Course starting at Flaxley.

So how about racing more often to support our great club and our selfless volunteers? Even if you’re not at peak fitness it can be a useful training ride.

The fun bit is guaranteed!
